About

AboutMy name is Jamie Hurst, and mostly I’m a full-time web developer for LINGsCARS.com, and I’m a recent graduate of the University of Sunderland, having recently got my First-class honours degree in Computing!

This means I spend my week working hard on either a new project or updating one of the many in-house systems we have at the crazy world headquarters of LINGsCARS. I’m a web developer who loves creating new and exciting applications, and who isn’t afraid to try new things and branch out from time to time. I recently spoke at a SuperMondays event along with Ling, explaining the methods in our madness at Ling’s world HQ! I also dabble in self-realising projects of my own, which you can read about on my Projects page, and in the odd freelance project when I have the time, and would love to hear about any projects you’re working on and if you would like to work with me!

In terms of web development, I currently specialise in PHP server-side development, recently more and more involving the Zend Framework, but also love to develop front-end interfaces using the standard flavours of (X)HTML, CSS and Javascript together with jQuery, although I am most definitely NOT a web designer, I can’t design anything to save my life!

Other than web development, I’m a bit of a Mac fan, owning an iMac, MacBook Pro and an iPhone (I’m NOT a fanboy, they just make good products) and I always enjoy trying out new applications, languages and the latest trends. I’ve worked with Linux systems before, both server and client side, and have done my fair share of networking too! From time to time, I also, begrudgingly, have to use Windows systems, and after using them for so many years do know my way around them a bit.

Outside of the world of computing, I am a man of simple pleasures. I love music, and have a very diverse taste which can range from extremely heavy metal to very poppy tunes and even to dance tracks, depending on where my mood takes me (my last.fm profile is kept up to date with my daily listening). I have a bit of a passion for cars, and have owned five so far in my four years of driving, currently owning a Mazda RX-8, which normally ends up eating far too much of my monthly income with the combination of fuel and oil its rotary engine is designed to use but which I absolutely love to drive! I also enjoy spending time with my friends, and can occasionally be spotting out in Sunderland, Newcastle of Durham on a weekend, depending on where the mood takes me!

To learn a bit more about me, the best way is definitely to follow me on Twitter (take a look to the right, my latest tweets show there) or just use the contact page to get in touch with me via email. I’m also on LinkedIn, although I use it very infrequently. I’ll be keeping this page up to date with the latest happenings as they occur, but thanks for visiting my blog! About
